“Casa Malpais,” a Pueblo in the volcanic badlands of the Little Colorado River in Arizona!

Maybe constructed in AD 1150. Maybe by elements of the Mogollon Culture moving north from the White River region and Kinishba. Probably ancestral to the Hopi and  Zuni and possible the Acoma Peoples. Maybe a powerful infusion from the south that energized these ancestral Puebloan cultures that live on today in the region. What is certain is that this Pueblo was constructed over giant and deep fissures of fractured black volcanic basalt in the cliffs overlooking the Upper Little Colorado River just outside of Springerville, Arizona. Natural canyons that lead through much of my writing!

I have three videos to post.

Just click any of the links or the videos below to take your own virtual visit to Casa Malpais!.

First is the hike up to the Pueblo and  a discussion of its square Kiva.

The second is a climb through the volcanic rocks up the cliff to the Mesa behind.

And the third is an examination of the circular astronomical structure.
