A Lifelong Resident’s Review of “Surrounding™ The Kentucky River”

I met Dr. Ronald Van Stockum at the Ravenna Railroad Festival and bought this book (Surrounding™ the Kentucky River).  After a peppy conversation, I learned he had visited many places in Carroll County, at the mouth of the Kentucky River. After a lifetime of living in Carroll and Owen Counties, we were very familiar with the graphics of this location.

Surrounding™ the Kentucky River was a joy to read, as Dr. Van Stockum’s writing has a way of making you feel you are with him as he scours up the creeks and valleys and ridges that makeup area around the Kentucky River.

His use of adjectives and exclamations (!!) makes this reading exciting. As an author, he has great enthusiasm for all things made by God. Dr. Van Stockum’s scientific knowledge of plants, animals, rocks, and land formations is amazing and a joy to read.
