The Dan & Susanne Adventures
Do you remember when you were young? Not young as an adult, or even an adolescent. And not young as in a child. I mean young as a youth, in that high time of newness of form and strength. That time between childhood awe and teenager stupid. A time when your own inquiring mind exploded with interest and wonder. And your numble, thin legs carried you forth with the courage of a young bird in first stumble.
You got your own room then, parents sensing and supporting your newfound responsibility. It was a small room, yes. But it was like your ship, your carriage, your kingdom. Arranged in trophy-like order were your souvenirs, mementos of your travels. Flights into the wide world outside. Adventures. And you had a window.
Your room was your refuge then. It was safety and warmth. The small bed was pushed up against the window, which would open and allow you to press your face against the screen. Deep nightly draughts of air filled your lungs, much like a cat samples the air in the dark.
